FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Cost, confidentiality, what counseling looks like, and more.

How much does counseling cost?

We don't currently offer a sliding scale or self-pay discount. We're in-network with Medicaid (TCP and Direct) and Aetna — see Insurance & Rates for details, or call to confirm your specific out-of-pocket cost.

Is what I share confidential?

Yes. Substance use disorder treatment records are protected under both HIPAA and the stricter federal 42 CFR Part 2 confidentiality rules — your information is not shared without your written consent, with narrow legal exceptions.

What does counseling actually look like?

[Placeholder — exact session format/length still needs a direct question to Shantina, not covered in her questionnaire response.] Sessions are conversational, not clinical interrogations — the pace is set by you, and the plan adjusts as your situation changes.

Is telehealth available?

Yes, via Zoom — for some individual sessions. Group sessions and classes (SACOT, SAIOP) are in-person only.

Do you accept my insurance?

We're in-network with Medicaid (TCP and Direct) and Aetna. We're working on expanding to additional carriers — call to ask about your specific plan. See the Insurance & Rates page for more.

What if Connecting Bridges isn't the right fit for me?

That's okay — call anyway. If it's not a fit, we'll do our best to connect you to a partner organization or the right level of care instead of leaving you without a next step.

I'm calling about someone else, not myself — is that okay?

Yes. Family members and friends reaching out on behalf of someone else are common and welcome — see the For Family & Loved Ones page.

I also need help with housing — can you help with that?

Housing comes up a lot in first conversations. We're not a housing provider, but we can point you toward local partners like Bethesda, Urban Ministry, and Shelter of Hope — see Get Help Now for the full list.

Still have a question?

Call directly — no commitment required.
